Complexions Contemporary Ballet will bring ‘Bach to Bowie’ to New Zealand

It’s the show that reviewers have described as a ‘sublime fusion of dance and exquisite ballet technique’ and this May its set to arrive at Auckland’s Iconic Civic Theatre.

Direct from New York and from celebrating its 25th anniversary, the world-renowned Complexions Contemporary Ballet will bring ‘Bach to Bowie’ and their distinctive brand of sheer passion, awe-inspiring skill and pure physically to Auckland in a special series of performances set to the iconic soundtracks of musical maestros – J S Bach and David Bowie.

Lead by world class choreographer Dwight Rhoden and legendary dancer Desmond Richardson, the sixteen strong diverse cast are set to wow audiences from May 10th. Founded in 1994 the pair started the company with the mission to reinventing dance through a ground-breaking mix of methods, styles and cultures. Today, the group represents one of the most recognised and respected performing arts brands in the world whose work has been seen by over 20-million television viewers and to well over 300,000 people in live audiences.

Set over two spectacular acts, the dazzling company open the show covering the work of Bach, exquisitely showcases the company’s technical perfection, musicality and versatility. The second half sees a dazzling homage to the iconic and chameleon spirit of David Bowie, fusing some of his greatest hits to create a rock-inspired ballet in Bowie’s honour. The music includes ‘Space Oddity’, ‘Heroes’, ‘Young Americans’, ‘Life on Mars’, ‘Let’s Dance’ and more.

Described by Broadway World as ‘a timeless piece of contemporary art’ and ‘utterly transfixing’ by Billboard Magazine. The company can’t wait to get down under for their limited Auckland Season and bring their unique brand of performance to audiences of all ages. In a nod to their support of the growth of the dance community a special student price of $10 a ticket is now on offer.
