Leeches – Pacific Dance Festival

LEECHES follows nine award-winning and internationally acclaimed dancers and their experiences living the modern experience of being Kiwi and Pasifika; their turmoils and triumphs of living in a Euro-centric country.

The performers take on character roles of members of society to reflect and challenge how the modern Pasifika person is perceived by one another and New Zealanders. The dance performance will be driven by the sought-after movement practice, “Lofty Release” developed by Tapu. It will inform the creation of the dance material and underpin a virtuosic and intricate movement language throughout the work.

LEECHES hopes to continue the discussion concerning the relationships between Kiwis and Pasifika. “Aloalii Tapu & Friends” is a performance-based collective lead by Aloalii Tapu, which is committed to presenting Kiwi grown talent and telling the stories of those not often represented.

We have a double pass to Leeches (June 7th) to giveaway. To be in to win, let us know your favourite style of dance in the comments below.

Competition now closed. Congratulations to our winner Hannah Robinson.
