Swing back to a bygone era at Highwic

Highwic, in association with The Metropolitan Club, are pleased to present the Highwic Lawn Party.

Formerly known as the Deco Day Out, this annual event is one of the highlights of Auckland’s summer season. This new iteration will give Aucklanders the opportunity to swing back to the 1920s, 30s, 40s or 50s at Highwic on Sunday 24th March.

“This event has been growing in popularity since it was first held in 2014,” says Heritage New Zealand Auckland Property Lead Amy Gaimster. “We are relaunching with a new title to reflect the glamorous bygone age of a lively lawn party.”

There will be live music, and free dance lessons from Swing Out Central will provide entertainment on the day. While classic cars and Jazz tunes will set the scene at Highwic taking people back to a time when fashion was hot and jazz was cool.

Food trucks will be on-site providing bespoke refreshments while those wishing to imbibe something a little stronger can savour cocktails from Hendricks Gin and dabble in Absinthe Obscura tasting sessions.

Glad rags and suspenders, boaters and boas are a must for those keen to partake in the Best Dressed Competition and for those wishing to demonstrate their baking abilities they are invited to bring along their best homemade scones and be a part of the inaugural ‘Scone-Off.’ Judges from the New Zealand Herald and MasterChef will be sampling the fare and selecting the 2019 ‘Scone-Off’ winner.

For those wishing to make some vintage purchases, market stalls will be selling vintage clothing, jewellery, accessories, hats and headwear on the Croquet Lawn at the Highwic Lawn Party.

Admission is $15 for adults, children are free and money raised will go towards the care and conservation of Highwic.
