Top 10 fun food festivals & events you can’t miss this month

Eat your heart out Auckland, because this month there is an abundance of fabulous food festivals and events that you absolutely don’t want to miss out on. We’ve compiled a list of our top 10 events for food fanatics this October, so mark your calendars – it’s about to get busy!


Feast Matakana
5th-14th October

Feast Matakana is the perfect way to see and try all the best cuisines that Matakana has to offer. With local eateries and producers joining up to provide a vast range of menu options, it’s a food fanatic’s dream! Running over three weeks until the 14th of October, there’s something for everyone to sample, taste and experience. We can’t wait to check out the Rothko Feast dinner at the region’s newest garden bar, Taste of Plume and the Chocolat special movie screening. The farmer’s market is also a great place to stock up on fresh produce and learn new recipes through live cooking demonstrations.


Eat. Drink. Pink
14th October, 12pm-3pm
Hurstmere Road Brewbar

If you’re looking to get the girls together for a fun weekend of fashion, food, cocktails and premium pink gin – then Eat.Drink.Pink is the answer to your prayers. With live fashion shows from Augustine, One of Us, Maverick & Mere, Live like Lil and more, they’ll also be take home goodie bags and photographers on hand to capture that perfect instagram snapshot. The event will also be raising money for Paddle For Hope, a passionate supporter of women going through rehabilitation after cancer diagnosis. The event will also host raffles and activities throughout the day, as well as fashionable prizes donated by some of Auckland’s favourite designers. So break out the pink clothes for the dress code, grab the girls and get your tickets together, it’s sure to be a fabulous event!


Brunch at French Bay
21st October, 8:30am-2pm
French Bay Yacht Club

French Bay foodies will be taking over French Bay Yacht Club for a street food filled event, featuring a range of Auckland’s favourites! A range of cuisines will be on offer including mediterranean, mouth-watering donuts, woodfried pizza, delicious french pastries, gourmet fillipino and more – all while overlooking the stunning ocean views. A great way to get out and enjoy the spring sun, and perfect for the whole family to enjoy.


Beer & Bacon Festival
27th October

A bacon lover’s dream, The Beer & Bacon festival will be hitting our little corner of the world for the second year in a row. Bacon cocktails, bacon beers, sizzling bacon and all the bacon-flavoured treats you can think of. Tantalise the tastebuds at this event with plenty of unique stalls, live entertainment throughout the day and New Zealand’s first ever bacon eating competition. The prize? More bacon PLUS a bacon eating trophy! Tuatara Breweries, Lagunitas Brewing Company and Black Dog Breweries will also be present with bacon-infused brews.

Festival Italiano 2018
28th October, 11am-5pm

New Zealand’s largest Italian street event returns once again to the streets of Newmarket, providing food, entertainment, culture and a fantastico festival for the whole family to enjoy. Showcasing the best that Italy has to offer, a variety of Italian events will be taking place throughout the month, leading up to big day. An italian market will be popping up made up of 40 stalls along with live entertainment, competitions, kid’s activities and more to immersify yourself in the culture, with delicious food to sample along the way.


Street Kai on Takutai
4th October, 11am-9pm
Takutai Square

For street food fans, Street Kai on Takutai is an event not to be missed! For one day only, Britomart will pair up with The Auckland Food Truck collective to set up shop in Takutai Square, right in the heart of Britomart. With some of Auckland’s best food trucks and Britomart’s most famous eateries, it’s the perfect opportunity to pop down in your lunch break or grab a bite to eat after work. Double Dutch Fries, Wise Boys Burgers, Miann, Captain Crepes and Judge Bao are just some of the city favourites taking part. With something for the whole family to enjoy, they’ll also be live entertainment from 5pm.


The Spring Blossom Rooftop Pop up
5th October, 12pm-3am
The Glass Goose

Aucklanders are in for a treat when SOHO wines team up with The Glass Goose to bring The Spring Blossom rooftop pop-up bar. Set to be an immersive experience, filled with cherry blossoms and an abundance of wine and sugar-coated sweets, it’s the perfect way to kick back, relax and unwind at the end of the working week. With live jazz music providing the entertainment, Auckland dessert favourites Kookie Haus, Bondie Designer Cupcakes, Lalele Organic Giapo and Cereal Killa (just to name a few) will be providing delicious treats for all guests. Not only that, but the event will also be raising money for Variety, The Children’s Charity. Every bottle of SOHO pink sheep collection wine purchased will go towards helping kiwi kids in need, through aiding the funding of basic aid and medical equipment. A great way to have a fabulous night out and give back at the same time.


The Chocolate & Coffee Show
6th & 7th October, 9am-5pm
The Cloud

Throw out the diet for a weekend, because Auckland’s Chocolate & Coffee Show is back for it’s fifth year in a row, and the 2018 show is shaping it to be a delicious treat! With a collection of the country’s best chocolatiers and coffee makers, the show is set to house 80 stalls, including the winners of this year’s Chocolate Awards. Also featured will be Matakana’s Honest Chocolate and some of Auckland’s top patisseries. With premium coffee and plenty of chocolate goodies to try, The Chocolate & Coffee Show is a feast of street food and mouth-watering treats.


Matakana Oyster & Wine Festival
7th October

Matakana’s famed Oyster & Wine Festival has been a statement kiwi event for years, and 2018 is no different! With local oyster farmers shucking and serving up oysters paired with local wines and a variety of seafood and cuisines on offer, it’s an experience like no other. Rain or shine, the festival features live music, activities for the kids, shucking competitions and cooking and wine demonstrations. There’s even a special prize for the best gumboots, so be sure to break out your best pair for the event! This year’s festival is also set to feature a musical lineup of spectacular talent including Sam Allen, Kora and Fifth Element amongst other local favourites. But get in quick, the Oyster & Wine Festival does tend to sell out, so be sure to get your tickets before they’re all gone!


Korean Street Food Festival
7th October, 5:30pm-11pm
Glenfield Shopping Centre Carpark

If you love the colourful culture of night markets and the sizzle of Korean cuisine, the Korean Street Food Festival is exactly what you’ve been looking for! Taking over the Glenfield night markets, 15 stalls will be dedicated to all of your favourite Korean dishes including kimchi, spicy rice cakes, tornado potato sticks and more. The evening will also feature live entertainment from K-pop groups and performers, and popular Korean TV shows will also be shown on screens so you can kick back and fully embrace the culture.
