Born in Mexico City and raised in the heartland of Tequila, chef Luis Cabrera is a master of his craft.
From bustling Mexico City to the enchanting streets of Venice, the metropolis of Sydney, and the serene landscapes of New Zealand, Luis has left his mark on the global culinary scene. His resume reads like a globe-trotter’s dream, with stints at top restaurants and hotels in Boston, Dublin, Milan, and beyond.
Chef Luis is a culinary luminary, invited to share his expertise at prestigious international institutions like Ibero-American University of Gastronomy, Mexico. As a former member of the Italian Chef’s Federation and National team of Chefs, Luis earned a Silver Medal at the Culinary Olympics in Germany in 2008.
From serving up delectable dishes to Barak Obama, to delighting the taste buds of Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Carlos Santana, and the famously exacting Gordon Ramsay, Luis has consistently wowed the most discerning palates.
But it was in New Zealand that Luis and his wife, Cecilia, decided to put down roots, introducing the flavours of Latin America to Kiwi diners with the opening of Besos Latinos, the country’s first authentic Latin American restaurant, in the heart of Auckland. This endeavour was soon followed by the chic Ceviche Bar by Besos Latinos, located in the vibrant Wynyard Quarter.


In November 2022, Luis made a bold move, shifting his focus to share the secret behind his signature margarita recipe. The result was Besos Margarita, a testament to his unwavering commitment to excellence. Discerning drinkers worldwide can now savour the taste of Mexico’s authenticity in a convenient 700ml ready-to-serve bottle, complete with its special chili salt. This margarita has taken the world by storm, winning a remarkable seven international awards, including the prestigious Triple Gold Medal at the Major League Spirits Awards (MLSA) in Michigan, 2023.
