Te Kaahu | The Roving Gourmets

Dennis & Rosamund Knill

Since opening its doors in 2023, Pullman Auckland Airport’s Te Kaahu has built a reputation with a conceptually straightforward menu driven with succinct but uncomplicated food.

Perched at the very top of Auckland International Airport, this premium restaurant under the guidance of executive chef Nancye Pirini delivers a distinctive and exceptional dining experience. The carefully curated bill of fare showcases a visionary selection of some of New Zealand’s finest cuisine, blending creativity with exceptionally fresh produce.

As the culinary magic begins to unfold, it’s clear that Te Kaaku is up to it with cutting-edge fare that turns conventional cuisine on its head. Not before hunger and appetite have peaked the gastronomic journey begins with appetising morsels of creamed paua; green-lipped mussels; shucked oysters; a cured meat platter; tempura broccolini; and ceviche. Prices range from $19-40.

There is plenty for traditionists here when it comes to mains ($42-50), think pork belly; beef short rib; salmon; eye fillet; tomato pasta; lamb loin, spiced chicken, and char-grilled octopus. Sides start at $14.

Kaahu’s wine approach is strong too, a fine list at very sensible prices that makes for a consistently impressive package.

And the verdict? This modern bustling venue excels in hospitality, fuelled by pride and expertise. With its soothing decor, serious wine list and seamless service, this is the perfect place for a long lunch or quintessential dinner. The kitchen is not afraid to step into the realm of the unusual with fare that comes to the table fresh, blissfully adorned and theatrically plated
