At last Auckland has a Thai restaurant with a menu turning out skilled versions of Thai classics, rendered with polish and an eye to authenticity.
Quietly tucked away at the southern end of Grey Lynn, Thai Thai Authentic Food is a cosy and familiar suburban eatery has long drawn in the crowds. They come here to enjoy Somboon Khamsuk’s Thai food cooked with flair and generosity. Somboon is a champion of our best local produce and has constructed a menu of fresh local ingredients. And, don’t be fooled by the facade, inside is a much imitated but rarely matched menu of authentic Thai cuisine that is all about assertive flavours that are taken seriously. Furthermore, it’s a cheap eat, the food is appetising and arrives hot at the table.

Some of the best entrees include chicken satay, chicken wings, steamed dumplings, curry puff, spring rolls, prawn skewers and pork spare ribs and if your overly adventurous the combination entree is a good introduction to Thai fare. The main menu itself gets a good workout, including an appealing selection of beef, chicken, pork and seafood dishes embraced with a wide selection of noodles and fried rice, curries, stir fries, salads and soups. Notable dishes that you shouldn’t miss are pad Thai, massaman curry, and tom yum soup – three of their signature dishes.
And the verdict? A welcome addition to Auckland’s growing portfolio of modern Thai restaurants. Nowhere else in Auckland will you eat as well as Thai Thai Authentic Food. Freshness and great attention to flavour and balance make it clear why this popular suburban eatery gets it right in nearly every way. Service is swift and polite with nothing left to chance.
