Box Office: August 2021

We take a look at movies hitting our screens in this month’s box office.

Warrior Queen

OUT NOW

Warrior Queen (pictured) tells of historic Queen of Jhansi, Lakshmibai, one of the most prominent figures within the independence movement of India, who fiercely led her army against the British East India Company in the infamous 1857 mutiny. Passion to free her province from colonial rule led this young woman to become one of India’s greatest generals, noted for her bravery and strategic acumen against two-and-a-half centuries of British rule. Warrior Queen is the story of the woman who lived, fought and died for the freedom of her people.

Queen Bees

05 August

Fiercely independent Helen (Ellen Burstyn) must temporarily move into a nearby retirement community where she encounters lusty widows, cutthroat bridge tournaments and a hotbed of bullying girls the likes of which she hasn’t encountered since high school. But somewhere between flower arranging and water aerobics Helen discovers it’s never too late to make new friends and perhaps even a new love. A heart-warming and humorous look at life’s second act, Queen Bees is inspired by the true story of producer Harrison Powell’s own grandmother’s second chance at love after moving into a retirement community as a widow.

The Misfits

OUT NOW

Maximum-security prison can’t hold thief Richard Pace (Pierce Brosnan), but his daring escape ends with him being grabbed by The Misfits. These modern-day Robin Hoods, led by the charismatic Ringo (Nick Cannon) convince Pace to join them to pull off the heist of the century; stealing millions in gold bars kept under one of the most secure prisons on Earth, owned by rogue businessman Schultz (Tim Roth), and used for funding terrorist groups worldwide. Aside from the money, Pace wants revenge against Schultz, for he is the man behind his incarceration. From LA to Abu Dhabi, it will take supercharged engines, multiple cons, camels, nitro and massive explosions to succeed.

The Ice Road

26 August

After a remote diamond mine collapses in the far northern regions of Canada, an ice driver leads an impossible rescue mission over a frozen ocean to save the lives of trapped miners despite thawing waters and a threat they never see coming.  Starring Liam Neeson.
