The 20-minute workout changing bodies and lives.
EMS (Electro Muscle Stimulation) is a revolutionary workout technique used widely in Europe – and now available in Auckland thanks to fu/nis. You’ll wear a damp, skin-hugging suit connected to electrodes that gently stimulate your muscles while you perform basic exercises like squats, lunges, and bicep curls. In just 20 minutes, you’ll activate up to 90% of your muscles – equivalent to a 90-minute HIIT class.
Sessions are one-on-one with experienced trainers who tailor the intensity and movements to your needs – whether chasing strength, weight loss, recovery, or simply time-efficient training.
My experience at fu/nis
As someone who’s tried everything from yoga to cold plunges and reformer pilates, I wasn’t sure if getting ‘electrocuted’ would really be my thing. But curiosity – and the promise of results in a fraction of the time – got the better of me.
Wearing the EMS suit felt strangely comforting. The first buzz was tingly, weird, but not unpleasant, a bit like a mild tens machine (devices used to relieve pain, especially during childbirth). Movements are deceptively simple, but once the dials are turned up, you really feel the work. My third session was noticeably tougher; however, I can honestly say that I enjoyed the challenge.
Best of all? After each session my muscles felt warm, relaxed, and alive. I felt real results – and had an understanding as to why fu/nis is a gamechanger for busy people wishing to maintain strength, fitness and that sculpted look.

Meet fu/nis
Founded by Catrina Kuehler, mum of two and hailing from Germany, fu/nis was born from a desire to bring this brilliant European training method to New Zealand. She opened the first studio in Auckland’s CBD in 2016 and later launched the Takapuna location with business partner Kelly Percy.
fu/nis Newmarket officially opened in mid‑2024. (Funis means ‘cord’ in Latin – symbolising the link between mind, body, trainer, and transformation.)
Real results
Karen (late 50s) lost 11kg in six months with just two sessions a week.
David (early 40s) dropped 10kg, improved endurance, and placed third in a race.
