Ritual & Rise

New Zealand's first homegrown, flavoured plant-based protein powder

Hemp protein company Ritual & Rise has launched New Zealand’s first and only homegrown, flavoured plant protein powder.

Hemp is the most nutrient-dense plant in the world, and is widely considered to be one of the most effective plant-based protein powders available. Now, with Ritual & Rise, Kiwis can get all the benefits of hemp protein powder and know exactly where it’s come from.

“There are plenty of protein companies with nice branding and pretty packaging, but imported ingredients weren’t cutting it for us. Our hemp protein powder is environmentally friendly, local, and is an incredible source of protein for users of all shapes, sizes and motivations,” says Ritual & Rise founder, rugby international Hagen Schulte.

Ritual & Rise uses natural flavourings to produce Banoffee Pie, Double Choc Brownie and Maple flavoured protein powders. They’re designed to go in smoothies, smoothie bowls, bliss balls, and anywhere users would usually consume their protein powder.

“It can be hard to find an effective alternative to dairy or whey-based protein powders that often leave you feeling bloated and gross for hours,” says Schulte. “It’s taken us 12 months of trial, error and innovation, but we’ve pioneered a protein powder that tastes better, is better for you, and is much better for our environment.

”Ritual & Rise hemp is grown and processed in Amberley, where it requires very little water and no herbicides or pesticides. The flavourings used in Ritual & Rise protein powders are also natural, local and environmentally-friendly.

“Traditional plant-based protein powders are usually imported from the likes of China, America and Europe,” Schulte says. But being able to follow locally-made ingredients from paddock to plate means New Zealanders know exactly what they’re eating and where it’s come from.”

Ritual & Rise’s natural protein powder are all vegan and dairy-free, and an example of how New Zealand producers can compete in the growing international plant-based protein market.

“We’re really excited,” says Schulte. “Not only have we created an incredible and unique product, but we’re making real headway in the New Zealand industrial hemp space and carving the way for more New Zealand farmers to jump on board.”
