MUSIC MATE – monthly music column by Franki August

Welcome to your new monthly music column, written by our wonderfully talented friend Franki August. This month Franki has put together a Stay at Home playlist for us.

“I think it would be fair to say that things haven’t exactly gone to plan in the last year or so… It’s probably also fair to say that for the foreseeable future, things are still very much up in the air, so let’s fill the air with music! For your first month hanging out with your pal Franki (that’s me!) we’re going to be chatting about the ultimate kiwi stay at home playlist, ‘a business on top, party on the bottom’ playlist – if you will.

Home Again by Shihad – A fitting song to kick us off on this (mis)adventure. Alright so the song isn’t actually about lockdown but the lyrics describe the ups and down pretty well – So sit and wait, and bend and break, you rise and fall. And one line in particular I like – It’s been a day of tiny triumphs – remember in these crazy times to celebrate the small wins friends!

Slice Of Heaven by Dave Dobbyn – Can you really have an ultimate kiwi playlist of any kind without this song? I think not. This song is to remind us to take a moment to be thankful for where we are in the world. A moment of gratitude for our slice of heaven. Her love shines over my horizon, she’s a slice of heaven. Warm moonlight over my horizon, she’s a slice of heaven. In comparison to the rest of the world, we’ve spent relatively short periods in lockdown and managed to get back to ‘life as usual’ pretty quickly, with things like domestic travel and large events allowed.

Special by Six60Just let me take this little moment to say that you’re so special to me. It’s always important but now more than ever, make the effort to connect with people and let them know that you care.

Solar Power by Lorde – If, like me, you’ve been spending more time inside staring at screens, it’s important to remember to get out and get some fresh air and sunshine! And I throw my cellular device in the water (maybe don’t actually throw your device in the water, maybe just put it down somewhere for a while…) Come on and let the bliss begin. Blink three times when you feel it kicking in. That solar-olar-olar power.

Wouldn’t Change a Thing by Franki August – If you’re missing worldwide travel as much as I am, then this one is for you! It will transport you to another place and you can pretend, just for a moment, that you flew away, further than up the interstate and On New Year’s Eve all dressed in white On Copa it was quite a sight. Have a listen now at http://frankiaugust.hearnow.com/
