Mawhiti in te reo means ‘Escape’ – and so, it is, a waterfront haven to escape to paradise.
This luxurious residence with magical sunsets, abundant birdlife, and the sound of lapping waves from the beach below is just five minutes from Waiheke’s best restaurants, boutiques and the ferry.

Conceptualised by award-winning architects Stevens Lawson, Mawhiti Waiheke features a series of continuous living and bedroom pavilions designed to complement the Gateway Pavilion. The architectural installation was originally created as New Zealand’s submission to the 2012 Venice Architecture Biennale and later commissioned for Sculpture on the Gulf in 2017.

Outdoor living is central to the property. The main entertainment deck provides space for shared meals and relaxed evenings, while smaller sheltered courtyards offer quieter places to read or enjoy the coastal view across the lawns.

Contemporary New Zealand artworks and sculptures are displayed throughout the home.
The main living pavilion forms the centre of the property. Floor-to-ceiling glass and wide sliding doors open the interior to the deck, creating a continuous connection between the living spaces, lawn and Hauraki Gulf. The lounge is arranged around an open wood fireplace, with several indoor and outdoor areas available for gathering or spending time separately.

In the living area, natural palettes of timber, concrete and stone offer an airy, Zen-like ambience.
With soaring, cathedral-inspired ceilings, Mawhiti is arranged as a series of connected pavilions, linked by covered walkways and positioned to make the most of the sea views, natural light, and coastal setting. Vaulted ceilings, extensive glazing, and natural timber combine to give the home a strong architectural identity while keeping the atmosphere calm and understated.

Four large, equal-sized bedroom suites are positioned in separate wings, providing excellent privacy for couples, families or friends travelling together. Each bedroom has a super-king bed, its own ensuite bathroom, and direct access to a private courtyard with a sea outlook.

Mawhiti enjoys all-day sun, magnificent views sloping down to a private beach that spills into crystal-clear water. More than a place to stay – it’s an immersive experience where architecture, nature, and art exist in perfect balance. With extraordinary sunsets looking out to Rangitoto and the twinkling lights of the city in the far distance, this is truly a retreat for the senses.
