Inside Lahood’s New Showroom Displays.
Lahood® Window Furnishings has brought a quiet design movement to centre stage at its Mt Eden showroom this October. Japandi, the meeting of Japanese wabi-sabi and Scandinavian hygge, has become one of the most enduring aesthetics in interiors, valued less for how it looks than how it makes a room feel: unhurried, textured and lived in. A simple, uncluttered approach, where every element has a purpose and a sense of beauty.
Wabi-Sabi Meets Hygge
The two ideas at its heart are simple. Japanese Wabi-sabi finds beauty in imperfection and the passage of time – a handmade bowl, a visible timber grain. Hygge is its Scandinavian counterpart, an instinct for uncomplicated, everyday warmth and cosiness. Lahood’s Japandi displays draw on these shared principles, with natural materials including linen, timber, bamboo, and stone combined with muted neutral tones, warm pinks and strokes of ink black.
Calming Warmth
The main window display leads with calming warmth. Its hero is Mokum Colour Field, a soft linen in warm, sun-faded pinks and clays shades. The design has the loose, gestural feel of hand-painted brushwork, with layered blocks of deliberately uneven colour that speak to wabi-sabi imperfection. Draped softly beside a BoConcept Bolzano swivel armchair in textured cream Lazio fabric and Lahood Lifestyle Banksia linen-look fabric in a gentle Blush shade, the combination creates a space that feels relaxed and unhurried.
Dark Japandi
Another display vignette leans towards the popular Dark Japandi mood. Mokum’s Abstraction linen in Basalt features black, ink-like brushstrokes and pairs with the deliberate imperfection of a hand-loomed Peter Myers Roman blind in Silk Road’s rustic weave. Both sit against the restrained lines of a Soren Liv Classique dining table in dark oak and its Sketch Tami chairs. Together, the dark tones, tactile textures and clean lines create a space that feels grounded, considered and quietly confident.
