This Christmas, venture into the dark, fairytale realm of Hansel & Gretel for a fantastical evening at the ballet. Follow feisty Gretel and hungry Hansel through a forest of tangled forks, led by the light of a moon made of cheese! Pirouette with forest fairies, a cabaret of sparkling stars that light up the forest. At the Witching Hour, enter the Gingerbread House – an edible carnival of the grotesque – oozing and bursting at its biscuit seams and dripping with the promise of sweetness to come – but there’s a sting in the tale.
The Ryman Healthcare Season of Hansel and Gretel runs from 30 November – 3 December at the Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre, Aotea Centre, accompanied by the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, and from 8 – 9 December at the Bruce Mason Theater, Takapuna.
