The Next Chapter

The Foundation

The vision for The Foundation was to create a world-class haven of refinement, sophistication and care for seniors – a place to feel energised, at home and rewarded in your later years.

Abbott Residences, the second residential stage of The Foundation, has now opened its doors, adding its own distinguished layer to that story. The 60-apartment building sits in the heart of Parnell, building on the success of Nathan Residences and the award-winning restoration of Pearson House.

The one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments combine classic design with contemporary finishes, creating a refined canvas for personal expression. Generously proportioned, open-plan interiors feature full-height windows, double glazing and high ceilings, enhancing natural light and a sense of space, while integrated air conditioning ensures comfort throughout the year. Chef’s kitchens, sculleries and full laundry rooms support a practical, clutter-free lifestyle, with every detail considered to elevate daily living, and state-of-the-art security includes secure underground parking and keyless entry.

Atop the building, a rooftop terrace offers panoramic views across the Auckland Domain, the Auckland War Memorial Museum, the city skyline and the Waitematā Harbour – an elevated sanctuary that serves as the perfect backdrop for sunset drinks, resident gatherings or quiet moments of reflection.

Generus Living, the group behind The Foundation, has been deliberate in crafting an environment where every detail counts – a philosophy that has defined the company through more than 15 years of building boutique retirement communities in some of New Zealand’s most sought-after locations. Generus Living director Graham Wilkinson says Abbott Residences represents everything The Foundation stands for.

“Beautifully crafted homes, outstanding amenities and personalised care within a community that celebrates design, heritage and hospitality,” he says. “From the apartments and rooftop terrace through to the artwork and landscaped courtyard, every element has been created to enrich residents’ daily lives while offering the confidence of care should it ever be needed.”

Abbott Residences also introduces something new to the precinct: Awhina Suites, The Foundation’s boutique care residence, offering respite, rest home, hospital-level, palliative and memory care exclusively for village residents. It means residents can remain within the community they know while receiving personalised care delivered with dignity, compassion and respect.

Art and heritage run through the building as thoroughly as its architecture. Its defining feature is ‘Whispers in the Canopy’, a six-level sculptural installation conceived by interior designer Stewart Harris, reinterpreting New Zealand’s native flora and fauna through handcrafted ceramic leaves, glass birds, copper branches and gilded moths, made by a collaboration of leading New Zealand artists. Drawing on the decorative tradition of chinoiserie, it offers a contemporary, three-dimensional counterpart to the bespoke de Gournay wall coverings found throughout the building. At ground level, a landscaped courtyard is centred on a 150-year-old persimmon tree, rescued from the historic Woodstock Estate orchard in Papakura after flooding in 2011 and now given a permanent home here – a living connection between the site’s past and its future.

Beyond Abbott Residences, residents have exclusive access to Pearson House, a fully restored 19th-century architectural treasure overlooking the Domain. Pearson House is home to Maddington on the Domain, a cafe and eatery offering an uplifting setting to gather with family and friends. Its original colonnade has been brought back to life, seamlessly linking the Drawing Room and Reading Room, while upstairs has been redesigned to house a luxurious boutique cinema, billiard room, lounge, art studio, cardio studio and wellness suite.

With Abbott Residences now open, The Foundation’s vision is becoming a reality – a place where architecture, hospitality, art, nature and care come together to create a considered and rewarding way of living.
