How can we keep on top of split ends and breakages during lockdown?
First up, take a break and don’t use heat on your hair. Next, remember to treat your hair gently – don’t tug at it no matter how fed up you get with a knot. If you do, it can worsen the split and make hair more fragile. If you’re spending lots of time at home, this is a no-brainer. Excess drying and styling – along with having the heating on all the time – will damage and dry out your hair. Try to limit the drying and use this time to look after your hair.
If you have naturally curly or wavy hair, now’s the time to embrace it. This is because “curls, waves and any movement in the hair helps hide any unruly out-of-place hair”, including split ends and breakage. How do we find the right hairbrush, and what should/shouldn’t we be using to comb out our hair whilst it is still wet?
When buying brushes here are two things you should consider when choosing the size of your round brush: firstly the length of your hair and the size of the curl/wave you want to create. If you want body then round brushes are ideal for creating that volume and body in your hair and if you want less or no body then flat brush or paddle brush is ideal.
With the proper round brush and a lot of practice (and lots of upper body strength), you can nail a salon-fresh blowout at home. Our team at Laboratorie when blow waving our clients hair teaches every client every time on how they can recreate the same or closer salon look at home. Nothing worse for us when clients are not able to recreate the salon finish at home so we make sure we take that responsibility of showing and teaching our clients on how to keep their hair looking good in-between salon visits.
Typically, round brushes are made with a metal or iconic barrel which heat up when used with a blow dryer (it works pretty much like a curling wand). The round brush helps tame frizz and delivers the desired amount of bounce to your hair. If you have fine to normal hair, we don’t recommend using a round brush with a metal or ionic barrel, as it may cause severe heat damage to already weak ends. Instead, we suggest trying something more gentle
