Honey drawing

Kate van der Drift

11 November – 6 December

Honey drawing considers how rituals of care and making can offer solace amid uncertainty. Working with honey, candle smoke, pūriri leaves and withered flowers, van der Drift continues her practice of embracing the unpredictable collaboration between materials and photographic emulsion, light and time. Drawing inspiration from the fleeting life of the pūriri moth, these delicate works reflect on cycles of life, death and renewal, revealing the quiet beauty and tenderness found in moments of transformation.

The Terrible Boredom of Paradise

Derek Henderson

25 November – 19 December

The Terrible Boredom of Paradise emerged from a 13,000km journey Derek Henderson made around Aotearoa during the summer of 2003–04 with a 4×5 field camera. The series traces an intensely personal geography: provincial streets, roadside motels, marae, weatherboard houses, empty intersections, parked cars, fading signage and landscapes suspended somewhere between familiarity and estrangement. What Henderson offers is not the mythic New Zealand of tourism campaigns or nationalist nostalgia. Instead, these photographs dwell in quieter territory – in pauses, edges and intervals.

Taking Shape

Nina Bulgakova

12 November – 10 December

In this new body of work, Nina Bulgakova explores how personal boundaries shift through the process of adaptation. The works combine sand-textured reliefs with paint, built up in layers over time. The flowing, shifting forms become a metaphor for adapting to a new environment, while the sand offers a way of grounding through material, acting as a physical anchor amid change. The meditative nature of the process is reflected in the resulting forms: quiet, layered, changing, and reaching for balance.
