Fall Back in Love with Christchurch

Summer is officially here and we are all enjoying the warmer days and the chance to get out and about in the evenings, so why not celebrate with a bit of a holiday to kick off the summer season, and what better place to take your holiday than Christchurch?

Previously a hub for tourists, in recent years it has been overlooked as the city rebuilds itself. Now as the city begins to grow it is time to check out what it has to offer, it is time to fall back in love with the place that is Christchurch.

Begin your day by taking a walk through the city spotting street art. Created by local artists these colourful murals enliven the streets creating a hip and modern atmosphere rivalling the alleyways of Melbourne. Strategically and artfully placed, they represent and celebrate the city’s culture and beauty. It surely is the perfect way to start your time in Christchurch.

After discovering its street art head to The Terrace which is booming with activity. Architecturally designed and overlooking the Avon River, The Terrace provides a smorgasbord of food varieties and night life that will fit both traditionalists and foodies alike. Designed to be a destination enjoyed by people of all ages, this area is the hub of Christchurch’s food district. Enjoy a lazy brunch at Botanic with bottomless cocktails and generous portions, or for a fun atmosphere check out the newly established Chiwahwah, a fun, contemporary mix of bohemian Mexican food. To end your meal head down to the Riverside market just a short walk past the Bridge Of Remembrance.

Christchurch, The Laboratory, Green Lipped Mussels

Relaxation is the key for any holiday and now that the New Brighton salt water pools have  opened you have the chance to relax and unwind in their therapeutic salt water. New Brighton is well-known for its beach and this new attraction, the first of its kind in the South Island, creates a new and exciting experience for both locals and tourists alike (it is doing a roaring trade, so book quick). After visiting these pools you will be ready to explore more of the developing area as you are surrounded by the sound of crashing waves and the smell of the sea. Experience each and every pool and then refresh in the plunge pool 2m deep and 10 – 14 degrees Celsius in temperature, this experience will wake you up to what is going on in this small part of the big city.

Be welcomed by the warm atmosphere and friendly hosts and enjoy a pizza and homemade beer up in their loft

Finally in the evening join locals at The Laboratory in Lincoln. The Laboratory’s interesting mix of brewery and pub is inviting from the moment you walk in the door to the time you leave. Be welcomed by the warm atmosphere and friendly hosts and enjoy a pizza and homemade beer up in their loft, with its squishy mish mash of couches and chairs bathed in light from clever quirky mannequins you will feel right at home. Trust us you won’t want to leave this place.
