Living in Symphony303

A new boutique residential development set to make a statement in Epsom

One of the great things about Auckland is its architecture, and it’s a great thing when a building can be repurposed instead of being knocked down. That’s exactly what’s happening in the case of Symphony303, once a commercial building, and soon to be an exclusive collection of 43 premium apartments in the heart of Epsom.

Hang on, I know what you’re thinking – Epsom is a gorgeous location, but maybe a bit out of the price range right now? Well, you’d be wrong. These stunning apartments in one of Auckland’s most sought-after suburbs are available for a fraction of the median sales price for the area, and they also offer access to the highly desirable Double Grammar Zone.

Lamont & Co., run by brothers Tim and Andrew Lamont, is behind this new endeavour, and it’s not their first architectural achievement. The pair are responsible for some of Auckland’s most successful urban housing projects, including Architecture Award-winning Fabric of Onehunga, the Onehunga Mall Club, as well as SKHY and SKHY2 in Grafton, which won national architecture honours. On top of this, the brothers are also long-time residents of Mt Eden, so the area, and what it’s got to offer, is known well to them.

The intention is to repurpose the  building into thoughtfully designed modern residential housing. This involves stripping the building back to its concrete frame, all the while preserving the character of the space, such as its generous ceiling height. An extension will also take place, adding two levels to make a total of five storeys.

The ground floor will be dedicated to the double height lobby, car parks, bike stands, and storage units, while the remaining four floors will be nothing but luxurious, elevated apartments. Each apartment has also been positioned to face either north-west or north-east to ensure the space is filled with an abundance of sunlight.

Matthew Downs, the principal architect responsible for leading this design, says that the project has been undertaken with harmony and balance in mind, and the goal has been to create apartments which will “instantly evoke a sense of calm and spaciousness.”
