It’s no secret that the age of Covid-19 has seen a surge in the availability of at-home workouts, fitness programmes and weekly lived-streamed classes. But what about online personal training?

Sure, it’s easy enough to connect with a trainer via Zoom and have them guide you through a workout, but former professional athlete and personal trainer Shane Lyons has created an entire online platform that offers so much more than this, catering to seasoned fitspos and those wanting to get back into a healthier lifestyle.

Shane’s background is in gymnastics with over 10 years’ experience in the international arena. He represented New Zealand at the 1997 World Championships and the 1988 Commonwealth Games. This background in high level gymnastics has given him a thorough understanding of functional strength and movement, including mobility and flexibility (i.e. it’s about more than just burpees and mountain climbers!).

As well as all of the obvious benefits of having an online personal trainer (working out in the comfort of your own home at your own schedule, no wasted travel time, no additional gym fees etc), one of the standout features of Shane’s workouts is that they require no equipment.

“I now specialise in Online Personal Training with body-weighted training and can assure you your own body is all you need. Your body is your gym,” says Shane.

And his overall approach and philosophy reflects this, with a focus on how the body moves as a whole, using your own powerful physique as a platform. Shane recognises that a focus on flexibility, mobility and grounding is often the missing ingredient in a lot of people’s regular fitness and health regimes. Think Yin and Yang (Yang being more dynamic, active movement and Yin being more grounded). Yin styles of movement are what help to calm and nurture our nervous system, but often we neglect this aspect of our well-being, instead focusing only on cardio and strength. Shane’s focus is a holistic one, again, more than just burpees and mountain climbers! As a registered CHEK Exercise Coach, Shane has achieved a high-level qualification in functional exercise, personalisation of program design, and correct application of exercise.

In addition to the workouts themselves, Shane’s One 2 One Online Personal Training program also includes a personalised fitness plan, mobile training app, and a detailed nutrition plan – “Having spent 18 years crafting, developing and running exercise programs, I know there’s simply no substitute for tailored quality exercise sessions and guidance from a fitness professional. It takes time, dedication and commitment but together, we will make it happen and faster than you might expect!” he says.

As well as Personal Training, Shane also offers a number of group fitness classes including Small Group Trainings, Boot Camps and Grounding Sessions at Beach Haven.

Shane is qualified in range of different exercise disciplines and truly has something to suit everyone. He is a CHEK Exercise Coach, a high-level qualification in corrective exercise, a REP (Registered Exercise Professional) and GTS Gravity Personal Trainer.
